We are also very fortunate to participate in the lecture held by Dr. Lea Waters at Upper Canada College in Toronto in 2019. She mentioned that according to statistics from the Mental Health Commission of Canada, there are 3.2 million adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19 in Canada who are at risk of depression. Among these people, about one-fifth of young people encounter mental health challenges, and only one-fifth of these children can receive proper mental health services. Suicide has become the second leading cause of death among young Canadians. The rate of suicide among young people in Canada ranks third among industrialized countries in the world. In Ontario, the suicide rate among teenage boys is twice that of girls. As a scientist focusing on strengths, Waters has always focused on parenting methods that focus on strengths. For more than two decades, she has witnessed how this method can enhance the self-esteem and ability of children and adolescents.
